About the Balaton Art Residency<\/h2>\n

\n\t\t\t[vc_column_text]The Balaton Art Residency was mostly focused on the Hungarian artist community in its first years, meanwhile our goal has always been to expand BAR into a well renowned international art residency programme. Between 2021-2023 the BAR has became part of the Veszpr\u00e9m-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture Programme, which helped to realize our vision for opening up BAR to international artists as well. Since 2022, the BAR has become an international art residency, and could achieve recognition in the international art community in a short period of time.<\/span><\/p>\n

The aim of BAR is to provide a high quality professional environment and a relaxed and calm atmosphere for the artists to realise their ideas and artistic work plan. Over the years, we have hosted a growing number of exceptionally talented artists. Each year, an independent professional jury is challenged by a large number of applications, to select the winning ones.

We attach great importance to the high quality of the BAR, both in terms of organisation, execution and education. Kl\u00e1ra Petra Szab\u00f3, artist<\/h3>\n

Kl\u00e1ra Petra Szab\u00f3, born in 1981, is a conceptual painter and intermedial artist. Her work is represented by a collection of series of watercolor paintings and associated animated videos and installations. Her work was showcased at a significant number of individual and group exhibitions both in Hungary and internationally, including South Korea and Japan. \n\u201cGlitch in the System – the role of mistakes and coincidence in the artistic process\u201d<\/b>
\nWhat happens if systemic glitches and random coincidences appear in art? How do such glitches make an impact on the artistic process and outcome? How can glitches and coincidences be embraced as a tool to enhance the creative process and to generate new ideas? How can one use glitches as a way of expressing creativity? Glitches are often regarded as failures in art. Contrary to this belief, glitches can have a much deeper meaning: they can be a source of inspiration, and a cornerstone of the creative process.

In the past 2 years, we had the honour to welcome two famous Hungarian artists as Art Mentors: Attila Kondor and R\u00f3bert Batyk\u00f3.

Social programmes<\/h3>\n

Exhibition<\/h3>\n

Here, visitors will not only be able to view the finished works, but can also meet and get to know the artists themselves. How do such glitches make an impact on the artistic process and outcome? How can glitches and coincidences be embraced as a tool to enhance the creative process and to generate new ideas? How can one use glitches as a way of expressing creativity? Glitches are often regarded as failures in art. Contrary to this belief, glitches can have a much deeper meaning: they can be a source of inspiration, and a cornerstone of the creative process.<\/li>\n
  • Applicants:<\/strong> Hungarian, as well as foreign artists (with priority to the Visegrad Group countries, and Asia) may apply for the open call. Applicants must have established independent artistic activity and be over the age of 18 to qualify for the call.<\/li>\n

      1. Short CV of the artist, with contact details and a list of their previous exhibitions, including links to the artist\u2019s own website, Artsy or other professional profiles<\/li>\n
      2. A digital portfolio of at least 5-15 good quality photographs from previous artworks<\/li>\n
      3. The number and sizes of the planned works, a visual design, a sketch of the work, a drawing, related to the theme<\/li>\n
      4. A brief description of the artist\u2019s plan for the works to be created during the art residency (we do not expect a final plan, but rather inspiration and research direction)<\/li>\n
      5. Acceptance of Term and Conditions of Participation<\/li>\n
      6. The winners will be selected by an independent jury of artists and art historians. Maximum of 10 artists will be granted acceptance. Selection of the artists will be based solely on the quality of the submission materials, there is no pre-set quota across Hungarian or international artists. In case there is a split decision, artists from the Visegrad Group countries and from Asia receive a priority.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        For selected artists the Foundation will provide:<\/b><\/p>\n

          \n
        • Travel costs reimbursement up until a maximum of 300 Euros on a budget airline, second class cabin train or bus\/coach ticket. The selected applicants will be contacted separately to assess their individual travel needs.<\/li>\n
        • Accomodation for the duration of the art residency in double rooms (2 artists \/ room)<\/li>\n
        • Two hot meals a day (lunch, dinner) during the art residency or equivalent monetary compensation (up to a maximum of 7,500 HUF \/ day)<\/li>\n
        • Full cost of materials (canvas, frame, paint) based on the application project submitted and accepted by the applicant. The selected applicants will be contacted separately to assess their individual material needs.<\/li>\n
        • Complementary Art Mentor consultations and participation in symposium \/ peer presentations sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Expectations:<\/b><\/p>\n

            \n
          • Preparedness and dedication from the artist, who has the experience to realise their preconceived plans during the residency.<\/li>\n
          • One \u2013 or two (depending on the number of pieces committed to in the submitted and accepted work plan, and according to the rules defined in the Terms and Conditions) \u2013 works per artist, made during the art camp and chosen by the organisers, must be donated to the organisers. The selected works will form part of the Balaton Art Residency Collection, established in 2018.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Recommendation for the application work submitted:<\/b><\/p>\n

            • Recommended number of works: minimum of 3, maximum of 5 pieces.<\/li>\n
            • Suggested size: minimum 50\u00d750 cm or other variations, but in general works of 100\u00d7100 cm or slightly larger are recommended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Evaluation criteria:<\/b><\/p>\n

              • Quality of the work plan submitted by the applicant<\/li>\n
              • Quality of submitted previous artworks and list of exhibitions<\/li>\n
              • The applicant\u2019s professional background (CV), previous exhibitions, and international presence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
